2023 ODI World Cup sets new viewership record


The 2023 men’s ODI World Cup in India has shattered records for in-stadium attendance and broadcast viewership, as per the International Cricket Board and its broadcast partners Disney Star 

The International Cricket Board estimated a total of 1,250,307 spectators over the 48 matches at the grounds in India, bettering the previous record of 1,016,420 spectators during the 2015 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The 2019 edition of the marquee event is at third with 752,000 spectators. 

Disney Star claimed linear television viewership in India crossed nearly half a billion with 518 billion tuning in for the World Cup across the one and a half months of the tournament. Overall consumption on television was 422 billion minutes, making it the grandest World Cup ever, as per the Broadcast Audience Research Council data in India. 

A total of 300 million people watched the World Cup final between India and Australia, with a peak concurrency of 130 million which according to Disney Star was the most-watched cricket match. 

The final also shattered digital viewership records, with Disney + Hotstar registering a high of 59 million concurrent viewers, the most for any live sporting event.
