5 Managers who can replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s nearly three year stint as Man Utd’s manager came to an end after a crushing 4-1 loss to Watford on Saturday. Cristiano Ronaldo, Raphael Varane and Jaden Sancho were signed by the club this summer, and the red devils were seen as strong title contenders, however, Solsjasker’s side have failed to persuade and performances have been consistently awful. 

Solskjaer survived the Liverpool demolition and Man City humiliation but the Watford defeat acted as the final nail in the coffin. Micheal Carrik will be the interim incharge for the upcoming games until the management finds a permanent solution. Here are 5 possible candidates who can fill the shoes of the norwegian legend:

1) Zinedine Zidane 

The Frenchman has shown his prowess as a manager during his time with Real Madrid. He enjoyed a successful spell with the spanish giants and helped them bag 3 champion league titles, two la liga trophies, 2 spanish super cups and 2 FIFA Club World Cups. Zidane is also known to have a good relationship with CR7, who was an integral part of the Zidane led white army. 

2) Brendan Rodgers

In a recent statement, Rodgers clearly stated that he is fully committed to the foxes but Leicester’s results haven’t been that great. He is under tremendous pressure to deliver and if things go the way they are currently then Rodgers will soon be axed from his job. Rodgers has however played a pivotal role in reshaping the Foxes and has assisted them in lifting the FA cup last season. The exciting British manager is tactically skilled and with the quality of players the red devils possess, Rodgers can fit in well and effectively marshall the troops.   

3) Erik Ten Hag

The Ajax boss can just prove to be the right man to replace Ole. AFC are doing exceedingly well in the Eredivisie, but it is their performances in the Champions league that have been noteworthy. With 4 wins in 4 games, the dutch giants are sitting at the top of their group standings. 

Ten Hag over the years has built a reputation as one of the best managers in Europe. His attacking philosophy and focus on building strong relationships among the players has certainly paid dividends. United so far have been very defensive with their play and Ten Hag could just help them increase the pace upfront. 

4) Maurico Pochettino

You must remember the Argentine maestro from his time at Tottenham. Under the guidance and management of Pochettino Spurs were a different gravy. He almost led the north london club to their debut PL title. He was also the chief architect for the white army’s dream run in the UCL that season. Although, he has had a bit of a hard time ever since he parted ways with English football. After his tremendous spell in England, Maurico decided to take the French league by storm but that hasn’t been the case. Despite having players like Neymar and Mbappe in the ranks, Pochettino has struggled to recreate the magic at/with PSG. United are long time admirers of Maurico and we won’t be surprised if they approach him to take the vacant spot. Considering the dominant run in English football, the Argentine would also be keen to return to the greatest leagues in the world. 

5) Graham Potter

Regarded as one of the finest English coaches by many, Graham Potter is certainly living up to his name with his distinct style of play. Potter rose to prominence at Swedish club Ostersunds where he managed for 7 years and delivered great results before he joined Swansea in 2019. The 46 year old gets his team to get comfortable in possession and plays special emphasis on retaining the ball. The Utd job is right in his alley. It would be fascinating to see Potter work alongside the biggest stars of the game.
