Aaron Finch captained the Australian team in 76 T20s and 55 ODIs. Finch played a total of 254 international matches, including five Tests, 146 ODIs and 103 T20 matches. Finch said about his retirement, "Realizing that I will not play until the next T20 World Championship in 2024, now is the right time to step down and give the team time to plan and execute for that tournament."
