AC Milan set to win their first league title in 11 years
The wait is almost over; AC Milan is set to win the Scudetto for the first time in 11 years!
Inter Milan crushed Juventus’ momentum when they lifted the Seria A trophy last year. Juventus won it for 9 seasons in a row but with Inter Milan’s victory last year, a lot of teams got the motivation to do well and lift the Scudetto. One such team is AC Milan. There used to be a time when players like Ronaldinho, David Beckham, Andre Pirlo, Maldini, Kaka and Nesta used to give their all for the badge but ever since that group broke and these legends retired, AC Milan found it extremely difficult. They failed to qualify for Europe in the middle but as things stand, the Rossoneri are all set to lift their first league title in 11 long years.
With a 2-0 win over Atalanta, AC Milan is now closer than ever to win the trophy. With 2 points ahead of Inter Milan in the standings, Stefano Pioli's side can’t even think of goofing it up in the last match. The team will challenge Sassuolo in the final fixture of the season and a draw will be enough for them to win the Scudetto.
Against Atalanta on Sunday, the team lacked vision in the first half but showed their character in the second half of the match. The Brazilian winger Raphael Leao scored the first goal in the 56th minute while Theo Hernandez’s brilliant solo goal made it 2-0 in the 75th minute of the match. A reflection of their second half performance in their next match can seal the deal for the red half of the city.
“We must only focus on the match and that will determine what will happen next,” Pioli told reporters after the Atalanta match. “I won't think about Inter's game, I don't care. We don't need more motivation than what we already have because we are already at the top in these terms”, he added.
While Speaking about Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s future at the club, the Italian said, “"I hope it won't be his last game at San Siro. He is a great champion, and I don't only refer to the technical aspect. I respect him so much; Zlatan is smart enough to decide his future”. The Swedish player has scored 8 goals from 26 games in this season but his influence in the team is what people will remember. He has the winning mentality and there’s no doubt that the ‘Lion’ influenced his fellow mates at AC Milan to win the Scudetto for the 19th time in history.
