Aaron Ramsdale defends Harry Maguire following defender's own goal against Scotland

England national team goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale defended Harry Maguire. He said the defender is one of the Three Lions' best defenders at the moment. As is known, Maguire was included in the England national team squad for this international break. His call-up caused controversy because he had minimal opportunities to play for Manchester United this season. Recently, Maguire has received criticism again. This was because the defender scored an own goal when the England national team faced the Scottish national team on Wednesday.

Ramsdale himself believes that Maguire has received excessive criticism so far. "When you are in the spotlight, all your behaviour is analyzed in detail," Ramsdale told Sky Sports. According to Ramsdale, the own-goal incident is something that usually happens. However, he believes that the criticism that befell Maguire is too exaggerated. "If he [Maguire] plays regularly, I'm sure when he scores an own goal the reaction will not be as enthusiastic as it is now," continued Ramsdale. "But now things are getting busy because people are exaggerating negative sentiment because he is deemed unfit to play for the England national team."

As Maguire's colleague, Ramsdale emphasized that he enjoyed playing with Maguire. He considered Maguire to be one of the best defenders he had ever guarded. "In the England national team, Harry Maguire is one of the best defenders we have. He has a strong mentality and he knows that he has good qualities," continued Ramsdale.

"He is always a threat in the opponent's penalty box when the ball is set, and he knows how to defend. He also knows how to lead his teammates, so I enjoy playing with him," he emphasized. Maguire himself has now returned to Manchester United. He is preparing for the Red Devils' next match.
