Ashton Agar released from Test squad to feature in Sheffield Shield

Australian left arm spinning all rounder, Ashton Agar is set to head back home from the ongoing tour of India to partake in the domestic circuit for Western Australia. The Kangaroos are yet to name a replacement for Agar ahead of the third test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy, set to commence on March 1.

Agar, who was a part of the squad for the first two Tests, didn’t get the chance to feature in the playing XI with the visitors instead going with Nathan Lyon, Todd Murphy and Matthew Kuhnemann. Meanwhile, Mitchell Swepson, who had missed the second test and returned home for the birth of his child, is set to be available for the penultimate test.

Australia are already without the services of David Warner and Josh Hazelwood, both of whom have been ruled out of the series due to their respective injuries. However, Cameron Green is expected to be fit and available for the upcoming match.

Agar, who will now feature in Western Australia’s next Sheffield Shield game on March 2 and their 50 over Marsh Cup final on March 8, is believed to return to India in March for the ODI series.
