Ashwin and Umesh wrapped up Bangladesh on 227 runs in the first innings

With hopes of sweeping a 2-match test series against Bangladesh, team India made a strong start on the first day of the second Test in Dhaka. India, led by Umesh Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin in the bowling department, bundled up Bangladesh's first innings for just 227 runs on the first day of the Test match, which began on Thursday, December 22, at Dhaka's Sher-e-Bangla Stadium. Former Bangladeshi skipper Mominul Haque, returning to the team for Bangladesh, played an excellent inning, but he could not get any contribution from the other batters.

At the same time, the day's play had to be stopped 6 overs before the full quota of the day due to bad light. For Team India, opening pair KL Rahul and Shubman Gill scored 19 runs without losing wickets till the end of the day’s play. However, Rahul, who was given out by the on-field umpire, survived by DRS.

Bangladesh decided to bat first after winning the toss in the second test match and its decision seemed right to the first 5-overs of the match. Since Team India decided not to play the last match’s star performer Kuldeep, who troubled the Bangladeshi batters in the first test match.

The Hosts' opening pair Zakir Hasan and Najmul Hasan Shanto were seen laying a good foundation for the first wicket by sharing a 39-run partnership till the 15th over. Making his return to the test after 12 years, Jaydev Unadkat took his first Test wicket by getting Zakir caught in the gully on an excellent short ball.

Zakir, who scored a century on his debut in the last Test, could not play a big inning this time despite staying at the crease for a long time, and in the almost same fashion, the rest of the Bangladesh batters could not take advantage of good starts.

Mominul Haque, who lost his Test captaincy, and left out of the team due to poor form, was returning after 6 months and proved to be Bangladesh's most successful batter on the first day of the second test.

The experienced left-handed batter not only faced the Indian bowlers firmly but also played many attacking shots. Mominul played a fighting knock of 84 runs and scored his 16th half-century. While Bangladeshi skipper Shakib Al Hasan (16), Mushfiqur Rahim (26) and Litton Das (25) started well but failed to convert into long partnerships.

Amazing bowling from Ashwin-Umesh

For India, Ashwin got success in the first innings against Bangladesh, he claimed 4 wickets along with Umesh Yadav, who also notched 4 wickets as well. Ashwin, who was not very successful in terms of wickets in the last Test, shook Bangladesh's innings this time by taking big wickets. He refused Mominul Haque from scoring his century and gave India a crucial breakthrough, which played a big role in wrapping up the tail-enders early.

Apart from him, The veteran bowler, Umesh Yadav started with tight bowling and gradually he got good results. Umesh also used reverse swing very well. The best example of this was shown against Nurul Hasan when he missed the ball completely while trying to play in the line of off stump and got out LBW.
