Match 7: STA vs SCO

Preview 

Melbourne Stars (STA) and Perth Scorchers (SCO) will cross swords in match number 7 of the AUS T20 League 2023 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne on Wednesday. Not the start to the season STA was hoping for as they suffered a massive 103 run loss against Heat at the Gabba. This was the third time when STA featured in the tournament opener for the past three years and have lost on all three occasions. 

Only rain seems to be able to keep SCO away from securing a win at the moment with Sunday’s abandoned match due to a dangerous pitch the first time they didn’t get all three points in their last five fixtures. Despite Ashton Agar still recovering from injury and Lance Morris, Mitch Marsh with the test side, the Perth based franchise are still drafting XIs capable of defeating any other side. 

With STA skipper Glenn Maxwell out of the match due to a forearm injury, stand-in skipper Marcus Stoinis will take the centre stage. He will be under tremendous pressure to perform and guide his team to their first win of the season. 

Frustrated by the GMHBA Stadium pitch on Sunday which meant they didn’t get an opportunity with the ball, the SCO menacing pace attack will get another shot against an out-of-favour batting lineup. Jason Beherendoff over the years has been amongst the standout bowlers in this competition and his consistency recently earned a maiden call up for Australia in T20Is. He alongside Andrew Tye will hold the key for the Scorchers with ball in hand.
