Preview 

South Africa is set to host Australia for a five match ODI series starting from today. The hosts had a pretty disappointing outing in the preceding T20I leg, where they were bruised, battered and thumped by Australia in all departments of the game, as a result suffered a 0-3 whitewash. 

The Proteas will be hoping to avenge the T20I series embarrassment with a commanding display in the first ODI and fine tune their preparations for the upcoming ODI World Series. 

Mangaung Oval in Bloemfontein will host the series opener on September 7. 

Australia have been looking sharp since the start of this year. After defeating India in the World Test Series final, they also retained the Urn in England. 

Now, they will be aiming to continue their spectacular run into the ODI World Series and hopefully lift the championship trophy for a record sixth time.

The two teams last played each other at Durban in the final game of the three T20Is. 

After winning the toss, SA opted to bat first. Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markram and Donovan Ferreira chipped in with valuable contributions to propel SA to a competitive total of 190. Sean Abott was Australia’s pick of the bowlers. He ended the game with impressive match figures of 4/31.    

Travis Head powered Australia home with a scintillating 48 ball 91. The high flying knock was studded with eight fours and six sixes.
