Beth Mooney ruled out of the Women's IND T20 League, Laura Wolvaardt added to the squad

Women's IND T20 League Gujarat skipper Beth Mooney got injured in the very first match of the tournament against Mumbai. She has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament. GUJ-W has added Laura Wolvaardt, a South African batter who is currently participating in exhibition matches in Pakistan.

29-year-old Mooney suffered a knee injury while batting during the tournament's opening encounter. The Aussie batter will miss the action but is looking for a strong comeback next season. "I was looking forward to the maiden WPL season with Adani's Gujarat side. But unfortunately, injuries are part and parcel of the sport and I am gutted to be missing the remainder of the season," Mooney said in a release.

Head coach of the side Rachael Haynes also wished a speedy recovery to Mooney. "Skipper Beth Mooney was one of the most bankable players in the team and she will be sorely missed. We wish her a speedy recovery and I am sure she will make her mark in the upcoming season," said Rachael Haynes, head coach of Gujarat Giants. "We welcome Laura to the squad and look forward to bringing in some of the best cricketing action in the maiden Women's T20 League season," she added.

Gujarat bought Beth Mooney for ₹ 2 crores, notably the skipper of the side as well. After picking up an unfortunate injury in the tournament she had to leave the field and she failed to play in the next two matches for GUJ-W. Now she also has a hamstring problem, which means she can't play the whole season.

In the absence of Beth Mooney, the team's vice-captain Sneh Rana will now take over the captaincy. At the same time, Sushma Verma was included in the team as wicketkeeper in place of Beth Mooney.
