Bravo retires from Indian T20 League, joins Chennai as a bowling coach
Veteran WI all-rounder Bravo has been appointed as the bowling coach of the Indian T20 League franchise Chennai ahead of the 2023 season. He has been an important member of the Chennai team since 2011 after representing Mumbai in the first three seasons of the Indian T20 League. Bravo will replace Balaji as the bowling coach, who is taking a year's break due to personal commitments.
The bowler, who took the maximum 183 wickets in 161 matches of the Indian T20 League, said, “I never thought that I would be the highest wicket-taker in the history of this league. I am happy to be a part of Indian T20 League history. The all-rounder played a key role in leading Chennai to many memorable victories. He has also scored 1560 runs at a strike rate of around 130.
Bravo also added that "I am looking forward to this new journey as it is something I see myself doing once my playing days are over. I enjoy working with the bowlers and It's a role I'm excited about. From player to coach, I don't think I have to adjust much because when I'm playing, I'm always working with the bowlers and one step ahead of the batsmen. Try to come up with plans and ideas to stay. The only difference is that I will no longer stand in the middle-on or mid-off. I never thought I would be the most successful batsman in the history of this league."
Vishwanathan, CEO of Chennai said, “Congratulations to Bravo for a wonderful career in the Indian T20 league. He has been an important member of the Chennai family for over a decade and we are excited to have him associated with the team. Bravo has been a part of the Chennai team that won the 2011, 2018, and 2021 Indian T20 League titles. While in his team, Chennai also won the Champions League title in 2014. He is the bowler who won the Purple Cap (highest wicket-taker in a season) twice in this league. Bravo's vast experience will be of great value to our players." Will be very important and support staff. We are confident that our bowling group will flourish under his guidance."
