Roy replaced by Brooks in England's World Series Squad

Reigning Champions England have made a late change to their ODI World Series squad, replacing Jason Roy with the promising Harry Brook. The opening batter was a key member of the team’s resurgence in the format and also a cog in their triumphant run four years ago but has experienced haphazard returns post that win.

He missed the recently concluded ODI series against New Zealand with back spasms. While skipper Jos Butler dropped hints that Roy might be added to the squad to face Ireland later this week, the selectors opted to leave him entirely. This move could mark the end of his international career with him having formerly said he would bid adieu post the conclusion of the marquee event.

Roy scored scintillating centuries this year, in Bloemfontein and Mirpur, but his all inclusive average of 31.78 in the span post last World Cup and his offlate issues with a back injury effectively sealed his fate. In a twofold blow, Dawid Malan scored 277 runs from three innings at a staggering average of 92.33 against the Kiwis and finished as the Player of the Series, stamping his authority in the squad.

“We have selected a squad we are confident can go to India and win the World Series," Luke Wright, England's national selector, said. "We are blessed with an incredibly strong group of white-ball players which was underlined by the performances in the series win against a very good New Zealand team.

"The strength of the group has meant that we have had to make some tough decisions on world-class players with Jason Roy missing out and Harry Brook coming into the squad."

Harry Brook, who was left out of England’s initial provisional squad for the World Series, has been called as Roy’s replacement in the 15 member setup. He played in three of the four games against the Black Cap- twice as an opener but only could muster scores of 25,2 and 10. He, however, has enjoyed an otherwise dazzling start to his international career in the last year and a half, especially in the Test format through his sensational performances in the middle order.
