Akash Singh replaces injured Mukesh Choudhary in Chennai's squad

Chennai’s left arm seamer Mukesh Choudhary is set to miss the entire Ind T20 League 2023 due to a stress fracture of the back fracture. Nagaland left arm quickie Akash Singh, who has played for Rajasthan in the past, has been named Choudhary’s replacement in the squad.

Choudhary’s injury is another huge blow to Chennai’s bowling attack that has already suffered a massive dent in the form of Kyle Jamieson, who has also been ruled out of the entire season with a back injury. Sri Lanka’s spin pair of Maheesh Theekshana and Matheesha Pathirna will also not be available for the first few matches.

Choudhary was deemed one of the finds of the last season, coming out as the team’s joint highest wicket taker, with 16 scalps in 13 fixtures at an economy rate of 9.31.

Akash, who went unsold during the auction, will join the Chennai squad at his base price of INR 20 Lakh. The 26 year old has picked seven wickets at a decent average of 7.87 in the nine T20s he has played so far. He made his T20 debut for Rajasthan in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2019 before helping India to a runners up finish in the Under 19 World Cup in South Africa.
