Liverpool has finally reached an agreement with Benfica for the transfer of talented young striker Darwin Nunez for 75 million Euros. The agreement also carries add-ons up to 20 million if Nunez fulfils certain targets at his new club. The Uruguayan penned a six-year deal for the Merseyside club and the club will soon unveil him as their new 10.
After Manchester City signed Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, Liverpool had to sign someone who can score around 25 goals a season. Manchester United also set his eyes on the young prospect but Liverpool acted quickly and Nunez of course said yes to the Champions League project rather than Europa League one!
With Mane leaving the club, Liverpool was desperate to get their hands on the former Benfica striker. The 22-year-old scored 34 goals in all competitions for Benfica this season and most importantly scored in both the ties that eliminated Liverpool from the Champions League this season.
Benfica purchased Nunez from the Spanish Club Almeria in 2020 for 24 million Euros. According to reports from the British Media, Almeria is set to receive 20% from the profit.
Liverpool won the FA Cup and League Cup this season and was very close to winning the Champions League and Premier League title. With Nunez by their side, can Liverpool make history by becoming the 2nd English team to win the treble?
