Bonucci wants to stay at Bianconeri as he informed this to the fans

Leonardo Bonucci's future with Italian Club Juventus is over after the club signalled they would no longer work with him next season. Seeing the situation, AS Roma and Lazio are reportedly interested in bringing in Bonucci. Juve has compiled a list of three unwanted players they are actively seeking to offload in the coming weeks among them Bonucci, Arthur Melo and Weston McKennie.

The 36-year-old has made over 500 appearances for the all-time Serie A champions, forming the famed 'BBC' defensive trio that went on to become the backbone of the Bianconeri's decade-long domination of Italian football. He is also the last member of the Trident still under contract in Turin, after former teammates Andrea Barzagli and Giorgio Chiellini left the Allianz Stadium in recent years.

Chiellini's move to Los Angeles last year meant the Italy international was the last remnant of the club's glory days under Antonio Conte and Massimiliano Allegri. Bonucci left Juventus to join rivals AC Milan in 2017 and a decision he quickly regretted when he returned to Turin the following year. Since then, he has won back the hearts of the fans, but the time has come for one of the best defenders in modern Serie A history to make his move.

The former Inter Milan defender is out of favour at Juventus, and with his contract expiring in 12 months, the Bianconeri are desperate to force him to leave as soon as possible. Saudi Arabia had emerged as a potential hypothetical should Bonucci fail to generate domestic interest, but the player has been reluctant to go that route. Keen to wear the captain's armband next summer if Italy's bid to qualify for Euro 2024 is successful, the ageing star is reluctant to leave his homeland.

Roma and Lazio are listed among the potential candidates to give Bonucci a chance in Italy's top division, as both sides look for reinforcements in defence, especially Lazio. Maurizio Sarri is looking for a defender who can start attacks from the back and has a lot of experience as they enter the Champions League next season. In addition, the Giallorossi are also at risk of losing Roger Ibanez, whose future at the Stadio Olimpico is still in question, forcing Jose Mourinho to enter the market to fill the void.
