Faiz Fazal call it quits

Vidarbha opener Faiz Fazal has announced his retirement from professional cricket after his  side’s Ranji Trophy match against Haryana.

The veteran batter will now retire as Vidarbha’s top run getter in both List A and first class cricket. Fazal led Vidarbha to Ranji trophy glory for the very first time in 2017-18. They successfully defended the title in the subsequent year under his captaincy again.

The southpaw got his maiden call up for the national side during the 2016 tour of Zimbabwe. He made his debut in the third ODI in Harare and ended up smashing an unbeaten half century in India’s emphatic 10-wicket win. As chance would have it was his only appearance for India.

“Tomorrow marks the end of an era as I step onto the Nagpur ground for the last time, where my journey in first-class cricket began 21 incredible years ago," Fazal wrote on his Instagram page on Sunday (February 18).

"It's been an unforgettable ride, filled with cherished memories that I'll hold dear forever. Representing both the Indian Cricket Team and Vidarbha has been the greatest honour of my life, and donning those cricket jerseys has always filled me with immense pride."
