Die Borussen suffer a defeat at home by Hoffenheim 2-3

EPL side Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho was named as the 'worst player on the pitch' by German media after his performance in Borussia Dortmund's recent Bundesliga defeat. The 23-year-old forward Sancho struggled to make an impact in Dortmund's 3-2 defeat to Hoffenheim on Sunday evening, as Maximilian Beier scored twice to take all three points for the visitors. The English striker made his seventh appearance of the season for Die Borussen since returning on loan in the January transfer window recently.

Although many expected the striker to rediscover his best form at Dortmund after playing there between 2017 and 2021, the opposite happened. Despite registering two assists in his first two games, Sancho has failed to register a goal contribution since then and has been criticized for his performance. Regarding Sancho's performance, German media, Der Westen, wrote: "Borussia Dortmund was very happy when Sancho was brought back during the transfer period last winter. The prodigal man is finally back. "The English man left the fans in a state of euphoria. A few weeks later there was no sign of it. Against TSG Hoffenheim, the fans hoped the 23-year-old would score his first goal.

"But they were disappointed again, the Dortmund star was again disappointing against Turn- und Sportgemeinschaft Hoffenheim and was probably the worst player on the pitch." Sancho played for 75 minutes before being substituted in match 23 of the Bundesliga, failing to register a single shot on goal or accurate cross for any of his teammates.

The former Man City academy learner returned to his old club last month after the Reds manager Erik ten Hag disagreed with the £73 million winger. Man United is desperate for Sancho to shine at Dortmund if they are to cut their losses on the £73m striker in the summer. They are highly unlikely to recoup their entire outlay on a footballer who struggled to reach his peak during two full seasons spent in England. Man Utd may release Sancho in the summer, but Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl has ruled out the possibility of making his stay permanent.

Kehl said that the situation was similar with Chelsea loanee Ian Maatsen. "Unfortunately for both footballers, there is no rational option. If you know what we got for Sancho two and a half years ago, then you also know that it might not be very difficult," he said. "We naturally advocated the option for him and also with Ian, but the negotiation situation does not allow us to carry it out and we will accept it for now."
