Gilchrist picks a 31-year-old above MS Dhoni as the 'Best Wicketkeeper To Spin Bowling'

Former Aussie stumper Adam Gilchrist, who is arguably one of the best wicketkeepers of all time, former legend and expert of the game, has ignored the legendary ex-Indian captain MS Dhoni to select a 31-year-old player as the best gloveman he has ever witnessed against spin bowling. Gilchrist, overwhelmed by the performance of England’s stumper Ben Foakes in the present five-match Test series against India, showered praises on the Englishmen.

Expressing his views during a podcast, also attended by England skipper Michael Vaughan, Gilchrist said, “Ben Foakes is the best wicketkeeper to spin bowling in particular that I have ever seen. And again, I have not seen enough of him standing back to the stumps. Because for some reason, they don't want to play him if there's no, not going to be lot of spin but he, what he did in the second Test, was quite beyond belief. The catches he was taking, under edges of spin bowlers. He is absolute pure class.”

Previously, England spinner Rehan Ahmed also lauded Ben Foakes’ keeping capability and called him the best wicketkeeper ever.

The clinical performance of Ahmed with Foakes resulted in six crucial dismissals in the second Test including two superb catches.

"I have never seen anyone as good as him," Rehan had said.

"I reckon he is the best keeper in the world, ever. He trains so hard. I just don't see him miss a ball, I can't even explain how good he is. A couple of those catches, he took 80-90 overs into the game. It's very hot, it's humid, and he is still taking those types of catches."

A few days ago, the ex-England cricketer Alec Stewart asserted that Foakes has the quickest hands than anyone else behind the wicket. "He does things that no one else can do. His hand speed is second to none. MS Dhoni had quick hands, but he (Foakes) has the quickest hands in the game, and the ball stays in them," Stewart stated.
