Chahal recalls his near death experience from 2013 Indian T20 League

Over and over again, people all over India have expressed or felt that the Indian T20 League is not just any tournament but a festival in India. People from distance only saw the lights, the highs and the lifestyle. Things drastically changed when Yuzvendra Chahal opened our eyes when he was speaking to Ravichandran Ashwin and Karun Nair about his horrifying experience in the 2013 version of the Indian T20 League.

In the video, where everyone was sharing their story of surviving a massacre, Chahal shared what happened with him and what a player from the Mumbai franchise did to him. Narrating the incident to Ashwin and Nair, the 31-year-old said, “I never told this story, from today everyone will know. I never shared this. This dates back to 2013 when I was with Mumbai Indians we had a match in Bangalore. There was a get-together after that. So there was a player who was very drunk, I won't say his name. He was very drunk and was looking at me for a long time and he just called me and he took me outside and he hung me on the balcony”.

This is not the first time a player came out to speak about the dark side of the tournament. Andrew Symonds was previously accused of something similar. Chahal completed the story by saying, “And my hands were around him, like this (behind his neck). Had I lost my grip, I was on the 15th floor. Suddenly many people who were there came and they handled it. I kind of fainted, they gave me water. Then I realised how responsible we need to be when we go anywhere. So this was one incident where I felt I made a narrow escape. Had there been the slightest mistake, I would’ve fallen down”.

Teams of course became much more responsible. At least we can hope that. However, the cricket fraternity is in shock after this came to light. Whether the story will progress further or not, we don’t know but after match parties are something that the teams will think twice from now on!
