Haaland could be charged by the English Football association for his remarks on X

The English Football Association could charge Erling Haaland for denouncing the performance of match officials after reacting to a controversial late call by referee Simon Hooper during Man City and Tottenham’s 3-3 stalemate with post on X stating “WTF”

Spurs secured a point courtesy Dejan Kulusevski 90th minute equaliser, but City were denied a match winning chance five minutes into stoppage time when Hooper blew the whistle to stop play when Jack Grealish dashed onto a through ball by Haaland.

The City striker had been fouled by Spurs defender Emerson Royal inside the centre half but quickly regained his feet to play a sumptuous ball to Grealish. Hooper had initially indicated an advantage, but then stopped play when Grealish looked set to sprint clear on goal.

The decision engendered an infuriated response from Haaland, who was handed a yellow card by Hooper, but the lanky Norwegian is now is threat of FA sanction for his post on X if it is found out to breach Rule E3.1, holding sway over social media remarks or comments made in the media.

Last month Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was charged by the FA for the comments he made about the match officials following his side’s 1-0 defeat to the Magpies.

Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou after the game said his team “got away with one” following Hooper’s bizarre call, and although the Man City coach said the event wasn’t the reason his team lost the two points, he came in defence of Haaland’s resentful reaction.

It's normal," Guardiola said. "His reaction was the same for 10 players. The rules are you cannot talk with the referees or fourth officials, so we should have had 10 players sent off today. He's a little bit disappointed.

"Even the referee -- if he played for Man City today he would be disappointed for that action, that's for sure.

"I make mistakes, players make mistakes. When Erling went down, the ref said play on and after making the pass, he stopped the game.

"I don't want to criticise him. Sometimes on the touchline I lose my mind, my gestures are not proper, but we didn't draw for that. Spurs are happy with a point, we are a little less happy."
