Harry Brook creates history!

England batsmen Harry Brook scripted history with another Test century against New Zealand. The 24 year old has emerged as a consistent performer for the Three Lions in the past year and the right handed batter continued his golden run with bat in hand with a splendid century on Day 1 of the second test against the Black Caps. Brook, who was signed by Hyderabad for a whopping Rs 13.25 crore, was unbeaten on 184 off 169 deliveries. Thanks to this innings, the young England sensation became the first batsman in history to score 800 runs after only 9 test innings. The record previously belonged to India’s Vinod Kambli (798) but Brook on Friday took his tally to 807 runs. He also surpassed legends Herbert Sutcliffe (780 runs in nine innings), Sunil Gavaskar (778 runs in nine innings) and Everton Weekes (777 runs in nine innings) to add a humongous milestone to his name.

Joe Root remained unbeaten on 101 as the visitors rampaged their way to 315-3 before rain enforced stumps early on Day 1. Harry walked to the crease with England wobbling at 21-3 within the first seven overs.

The hosts elected to bowl first on a green top after winning the toss. That call paid instant rewards as NZ removed England’s top order of Zak Crawley (2), Ollie Pope (two) and Ben Duckett (9) in quick succession.

Matt Henry and skipper Tim Southee gave England the early jitters before Root and Brook stitched an unbeaten 294 run partnership.
