Bayer Leverkusen thrashed Werder Bremen by 5-0 to win their maiden Bundesliga title

Bayer Leverkusen finally confirmed the 2023/2024 Bundesliga title after beating Werder Bremen with a landslide score of 5-0 on Sunday(14th April 2024). These three points ensured that Xabi Alonso's team would not be able to catch up for the rest of the season. Leverkusen collected 79 points after 29 league matches and won 25 league matches while their four matches ended in a draw. They edged past 32-time Bundesliga winners Bayern who currently has 63 points after 29 matches in the league.

Thousands of Bayer Leverkusen supporters had already filled the BayArena Stadium area to welcome the presence of Florian Wirtz ahead of the match against Bremen. They seemed confident that their favourite team could win this crucial match, Bayer Leverkusen, armed with a 2-0 victory over West Ham in the Europa League quarter-finals, appeared much more dominant over Bremen. Eight shots on goal marked the duel. Of the nine shots on target, four of them resulted in goals.

Meanwhile, Victor Boniface gave Leverkusen the lead via a penalty in the 25th minute, while Grant Xhaka scored the other two goals in the 60th minute and Florian Wirtz in the 68th minute. Bayer Leverkusen solidified a 5-0 victory over Werder Bremen and claimed the German league trophy after Wirtz scored two more goals in the 83' and 90 minutes respectively. Xabi Alonso's side secured their maiden Bundesliga title in 120-year history and ended the terrific winning 11-year run of Bayern Munich in the league.
