French National Team Captain Hugo Lloris confirmed his retirement from the national team

The goalkeeper and captain of the French National Team Hugo Lloris confirmed in an interview for a local media house that he is ending his stage as a French international footballer on Monday.

The 36-year-old French goalkeeper retires after an epic run with French International Football. In the World Championship Final against Argentina, Lloris became the footballer with the most caps in the history of France with 145 caps, surpassing a legend like Lilliam Thuram (142 caps).

Since Lloris was appointed captain of 'Les Bleus' in 2010, he has managed to establish a record of 121 captaincies at the helm of the French team. He lifted the World Cup with France in 2018 and the Nations League in 2021.

"There comes a time when you have to know how to give in. I don't want to make it mine, I've always said over and over again that the French team doesn't belong to anyone, and we all have to make sure that it does, I'm the first," Lloris declared at the half-French local media house.

Hugo Lloris believes that the French goal will be well covered with his relief, Mike Maignan. "There is a goalkeeper who is ready and I need to have a little time for myself, my family and my children," he stresses, before stating that "you have to know how to take over."

Lloris also holds two World Cup records: 20 matches played in a World Cup, ahead of Antoine Griezmann with 19, and 4 World Cup finals played between 2010 and 2022.

The French coach, renewed until 2026, has stated that: "Hugo has decided to retire while he is still in his prime. He shared his thoughts and decision with me a few days ago. I must, we must respect him even though he still has a place in our team." Deschamps also praised a French legend: "He retires a great server from the French team and I want to mention that, beyond his exceptional career, he is a formidable person."

The president of the French Football Federation wanted to have a few words about Lloris' withdrawal from the national team: "Hugo is one of the best goalkeepers in history. I will never tire of seeing him. We will pay him the tribute he deserves during the next game of 'Les Bleus'."
