Hyderabad announces Pat Cummins as the captain for the Indian T20 League 2024

The Hyderabad franchise has decided to alter the captaincy for the third time in their previous three seasons. The one-time Indian T20 League-winning franchise has handed over the captaincy baton to Australia’s ODI World Cup-winning skipper Pat Cummins. He will replace Aiden Markram who led the side in 2023. The Deccan side has recently bought Cummins for ₹20.50 Crore in the Indian T20 League Mini Auction which was held in December last year.

The Kangaroos were in red-hot form under the captaincy of Pat Cummins in 2023. The side beat India in the World Test Series Final before defeating the Rohit Sharma-led side once again in the ODI World Cup Final during the previous calendar year.

Australia’s ODI World Cup triumph was a phenomenal success as the team bounced back from two straight defeats at the beginning of the tournament, then beating the favourites, India, in their home at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

The Proteas all-rounder didn’t have his best time as the leader of the Hyderabad franchise in the 2023 season of the Indian T20 League. The frequent changes in the team line-up made them finish at the bottom of the chart with only 4 wins from 14 matches. However, Markram’s captaincy skills have been praised in the SAT20 League where he led the Eastern Cape to back-to-back two season wins.
