Ind T20 League 2022: Chennai Retention Highlights
Retentions: All you need to know about the Chennai franchise
There was a huge question mark on the future of MS Dhoni but Chennai on Tuesday confirmed that the legendary Indian cricketer will continue playing cricket and will continue with the Chennai franchise in the upcoming season. Dhoni has previously stated that he will decide based on the retention policy of the board and looks like the 2-times World winning captain was satisfied.
Dhoni, who has won four Indian t20 League trophies, has been the heart and soul of the franchise. He has given his all and made the franchise what it is today. The franchise had no doubt about his retention but the player was in two minds. However, at last, he will be representing the Chennai franchise once again.
He has been retained as the second player as Ravindra Jadeja will be earning the most as he is the first player to be retained by the franchise. Along with that, Moeen Ali and dynamic opener Rituraj Gaikwad have been retained in the same order. After winning the championship this year, Chennai will look to defend their title but it won’t be easy for them. Like all the other teams, they have completely lost their core and finally, Suresh Raina has bid goodbye to the franchise. So did Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur and Ambati Rayudu along with Sam Curran, Josh Hazlewood and Faf Du Plessis.
MS Dhoni is a big fan of keeping the same team specially when the team is winning. So, it won’t be surprising if they bring back a few of their players from the auction table. It will also be interesting if they buy more youngsters this time and build the squad for the next 10 years. If they bring back those players that might suit Chennai in short time but can be very painful in the long run as most of them are above 35.
No matter what, as long as Dhoni is there, there’s no tension. The wicket-keeper batsman knows exactly what to do, how to do and who can do it. He is one of the best captains of the game and it won’t be surprising if he goes up to win another trophy for his side.
