Indian T20 League 2023
HYD vs KOL, 47th Match
Preview
The 47th match of the Indian T20 League will witness a battle between the Hyderabad and the Kolkata franchise. The match will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Thursday, May 4.
Kolkata is in the eighth place in the points table with three wins in nine matches and on the other side, Hyderabad is one slot below them with the same number of wins in eight matches.
Hyderabad won their last played match against the bottom-lying Delhi franchise. The Markram-led side put forward a total of 197 runs in the first half riding on the back of opener Abhishek Sharma (67 off 36 balls). The finishing touch was provided by Heinrich Klaasen who remained unbeaten at a score of 53 runs off just 27 deliveries. Mitchell Marsh took 4 wickets from the other side but failed to stop the run flow.
After David Warner was sent back for a 2-ball duck, his co-opener Philip Salt took over the responsibility to score runs. Salt along with Mitchell Marsh scored 122 runs collectively but at last fell short of 9 runs. Barring Umran Malik who gave away 22 runs in just a single over, Mayank Markande took 2 wickets with other bowlers being quite economical to restrict the opponents.
Kolkata on the other hand, lost their previous match to Gujarat at their home ground. The two times champions posted 179 runs at the loss of 7 wickets in the 1st innings. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was excellent with the bat as he played an 81-run knock, holding the team strong. Although other Kolkata batters failed to put an impact in front of the Gujarat bowlers, Russell finished off with 34 runs in 19 balls to put forward their side with a strong total. Mohammad Shami took 4 wickets along with Joshua Little and Noor Ahmad picking 2 wickets apiece from the opponent’s end.
Gujarat batters were on a rage in front of the Kolkata bowlers, opener Shubman Gill who is already in sublime form scored 49 runs off 35 balls. Skipper Hardik Pandya, & David Miller also played small cameos of 26 and 32 runs respectively to add to the total. The most thriller game was of Vijay Shankar who was not in a mood to stop attacking the home side. He remained unbeaten at 51 runs scored off just 24 balls which sealed a comfortable victory for the away side in just 17.5 overs. The strong Kolkata bowling lineup failed to put an impact on the Hardik Pandya-led side.

Pitch and Weather Report
The average total in the first innings at this venue is 160 runs. Any score over 175 runs in the first innings would be enough to fight for and win.
The teams batting first have won 3 out of 4 matches at this venue in this season’s Indian T20 League. This is usually a high-scoring venue but has gradually become a low-scoring venue where spinners have complete control over the game. Both teams have batting sides with almost nil consistency and hence the skipper winning the toss would probably choose to bat first in order to put a good total on the board and then defend it.
This is a batting-friendly pitch which offers good help to the spinners. Markande and Sundar have been successful at this venue twice so far. The weather predicted is cloudy on the matchday with a high temperature of 31 degrees Celsius.

Match Prediction
There are plenty of issues to be dealt with as both sides are coming into this match. Some of the players are suffering from their poor form and are failing to recover from the unexpected collapses. It isn’t easy to pick a winner in this match but we choose Kolkata to pull out their fourth win in this game because of their bowling attack. They also have strong batters who can carry on the innings to take their side to a good score. This brings Kolkata a slight edge over the opponents to win this match.
Top Fantasy Picks
Rahul Tripathi is the highest run-getter for Hyderabad with 170 runs scored at a strike rate of 114. He has shot 5 sixes and 18 fours till now in this tournament.
Mayank Markande has been the best thing that happened to Hyderabad. He has picked up 10 wickets while bowling at an average of 15 and an economy rate of 6.42.
Venkatesh Iyer is the leading run-scorer for the Kolkata franchise with 296 runs made at a strike rate of 148. He has struck 16 sixes and 24 fours. His poor patch is a concern for the side and they would like to see him get in his old mood in this match.
Varun Chakravarthy has been the most promising bowler for the side and has taken 13 wickets while bowling at an average of 21 and an economy rate of 8.35.
Risky Captaincy Choice
Rinku Singh played some good knocks including a century against Gujarat who are currently the league toppers but have been quiet since then. We expect him to make a thrilling comeback in this match.
