The 12th match of the Indian T20 League is going to be played between Gujarat and Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 31. Both teams had clashed three times in the past and Gujarat have come out victorious on two occasions respectively.

GUJ are sitting in 7th place in the points table with a single win out of their two fixtures. HYD, on the other hand, are occupying the third place with the same number of wins in as many matches but with a Net Run Rate. 

Gujarat defeated their arch-rivals Mumbai in the first match but lost their last match against Gaikwad-led Chennai. The defeat was the result of a disappointing start by the bowling side at the very beginning of the match and gradually the batters failed to thrive under pressure. 

Rashid Khan shattered two wickets in the game but gave away too many runs (12.25 eco. rate) in his four-over tenure. Their new signing Spencer Johnson along with Sai Kishore and Mohit Sharma took a wicket apiece but eventually failed to control the flow of runs. 

Their batting side also failed to start well. Sai Sudharsan contributed well (37 runs) as an impact player in the top order. The last year's runners-up witnessed a colossal fall of wickets wiping out the entire middle order at the score of just 44 runs. The Shubman Gill-led side failed to keep a check on their wickets in front of Chennai’s bowling attack hence resulting in losing the match by a massive margin of 63 runs.

The Deccan side led by the World Cup-winning Aussie pacester, Pat Cummins, has done it again by registering the highest score in the history of the Indian T20 League. A huge win against the five-time champions Mumbai was a historical moment and this firecracker of a show will boost their confidence for the rest of the tournament.

Travis Head came up with 62 runs off 24 balls along with Abhishek Sharma 63 off 23. The young gun also scored the fastest half-century in the history of the Indian T20 League as well. The momentum was carried by Aiden Markram (42 off 28 deliveries) and Heinrich Klaasen (80 off 34) in the middle-order to keep the scoreboard running.

It was a doomsday for the bowlers of both sides. HYD bowing units became expensive in their second half but at last, they successfully restricted the opponents from getting away with the two points. Skipper Pat Cummins and Jaydev Unadkat picked up two wickets each along with Shabaz Ahmed taking one to wind up the game to their side.

Pitch and Weather Report

The surface at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is excellent to bat on and we can expect a high-scoring match between the sides. The team batting first will be peeking on getting close to 200 runs on the scoreboard to put the opponent under pressure in the second innings of the match. The pitch does have some grass on it which will help the fast bowlers in the powerplays.

Match Prediction

Though in the head-to-head stats, Gujarat is a step ahead of Hyderabad, Gill and co. are facing issues this year in their coordination. They don’t have depth in their batting and lack an experienced leadership. HYD, on the other side, with Pat Cummins leading the pack and a well-tested batting lineup consisting of some of the most vibrant T20 players,  is expected to win the game on Sunday.
