The second match of the Indian T20 League 2024 is all set to take place between Punjab (PUN) and Delhi(DEL) on Saturday(23rd March 2024) at 03:30 PM from Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur. Both Northern sides PUN and DEL had made it to the final of this marquee tournament previously but unfortunately, both franchises failed to clinch the silverware. PUN's Shikhar Dhawan and DEL's Rishabh Pant are set to lead their respective sides in this 17th edition of the league.

Punjab and Delhi will be eyeing to start their campaign on a high note on Saturday. The cricket experts have already banished the chances of both Northern sides being favourites to lift this prestigious title this season. It seems both sides will have a mixup combination of experienced and inexperienced players in the squad who will be looking to show their skills with the bat and ball throughout the league. Punjab will be led by left-handed batter Shikhar Dhawan, so with very few changes in the squad, the Hosts Punjab will be expecting a high-flying start from experienced Shikhar Dhawan and English batter Bairstow. They do not have much middle-order experience, but they will be reckoning a fancy show from their batters. When it comes to bowling, Punjab has good strength with the combination of Nathan Ellis, Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh and Harshal Patel all boasting top T20 records.

Delhi will be led by left-handed batter Rishabh Pant who will be making his long-term return to the cricket field following an almost life-taking accident. The 26-year-old batter plays with a freedom of spirit and cricket lovers from across the globe will be delighted to see him back in the team and win matches for his side. With the Aussie think-tank in the squad, Ricky Ponting, Delhi will be expecting a big flux throughout the tournament with a combination of overseas and Indian players, the Visitors will be hoping for a positive result on Saturday afternoon.

Delhi will be anticipating David Warner to give a solid foundation on the top with his experience and classic batting. The Aussie left-handed batter will likely be assisted by his countryman Mitchell Marsh or an Indian right-handed little dynamic batter Prithvi Shaw on the top. In the middle order, they have players who can play deep and produce big shots in any situation of the game. There are also plenty of in-form players for Delhi(DEL) to call upon with all-rounder Marsh, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Kuldeep Yadav all playing their prime games. 

In a head-to-head battle between the two sides DEL and PUN have faced each other in 32 matches in Indian T20 League 2024. Out of these 32 matches, DEL has won 16 whereas PUN has won 16 as well.

As such, there will be some uncertainty over the conditions and the fans may expect both sides to choose to bowl first if they win the toss. The second match of the tournament is set to place between Punjab and Delhi on Saturday at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.

Match Prediction

It is going to be a good contest, with both Punjab and Delhi looking for a good start. With only one match in the tournament ahead of this game, there will be plenty of excitement across the globe and not just in Mohali ahead of this match between Punjab and Delhi. Dehi's skipper Pant's return will be the key point from the Visitors and DEL expects him to lead his side to victory. Punjab has variety in their bowling attack but we don't see enough runs in their XI. We believe the Visitors Delhi to start their campaign with a win over Punjab.
