What is DEXA Scan? Indian Cricket Team’s new selection parameter

The Apex Council of the Indian Cricket fraternity declared several essential recommendations after its review meeting of the Indian Cricket Team on Sunday. All the necessary changes have been made keeping in mind, the upcoming World Championship that will take place in India this year. India last won the prestigious silverware in 2011. Since then, they have played a single final, way back in 2014 across the T20I and ODI World Championships. Fanning the flame, the Men in Blue suffered a humiliating 10-wicket defeat at the hands of England in the semi-final of the T20 World Championship, the previous year.

The review conference on Sunday was accompanied by the Council’s president Mr Roger Binny, secretary Jay Shah, Team India captain Rohit Sharma, and Senior team coach Rahul Dravid witnessed the council re-introducing the Yo-Yo test.

The India team is well aware of the Yo-Yo Test which was first introduced ahead of the World Championship crusade in 2019. The latest report stated that a new test named DEXA scan was also presented by the Apex Council for the players.

"The Yo-Yo Test and Dexa will now be part of selection criteria and implemented in the customized roadmaps of the central pool of players," the Board stated in a press release.

What is a DEXA scan?

DEXA scans aid to calculate the lean muscle mass, water content, body fat percentage and bone density of an individual. This test has been introduced alongside the Yo-Yo Test. From now on, the fitness benchmark is going to be a challenging one for the players.

As per reports, the Indian Cricket Council will also have a close glimpse at the fitness of injury-prone players.

"The issues of player availability, workload management and fitness parameters were also discussed at length during the meeting along with the roadmap to the Cricket World Championship 2023," said the Apex Council in a press release.
