Ireland vs Bangladesh, 2023

1st ODI Match

Preview

Ireland and Bangladesh will lock horns on the 9th of May for the 1st ODI match which will be played at the County Ground at Chelmsford. Ireland is playing a very ordinary form of cricket. They tied a series 1-1 against Zimbabwe in January this year. Nevertheless, in March they lost to Bangladesh by a 2-0 margin in a 3-match series.

Paul Stirling is the prime asset for Ireland. He is the top-order batsman who has a habit of hitting the ball out of the park on different occasions and taking his team off a flying start. If he fires off in a perfect way during the powerplay then Ireland will have a great chance of winning against the Bangla Tigers. Craig Young will lead the bowling side for the Irish side and will aim to provide early breakthroughs. He along with the other bowlers needs to make sure of leaking as much fewer runs as possible.

Bangladesh has been in sublime touch in ODI cricket and as said they have overpowered Ireland previously in March this year by a 2-0 margin. They also won against the mighty Indian side by a 2-1 margin in December which is a notable achievement for the Bangla Tigers. Najmul Hossain Shanto has shown great signs of grit and determination coming at the top of the order against England. He is in the form of his life and is expected to prove it once again in the ODI series against Ireland. Ebadot Hossain will be leading the bowling attack and on English pitches he can prove to be lethal with short-length balls and variations.

Match Details

Match: IRE vs BAN, 1st ODI Match

Date: Tuesday, May 9, 2023

Time: 3:15 PM

Venue: County Ground, Chelmsford

Pitch and Weather Report

Only three Men’s ODI have been played at the County Ground in Chelmsford. The average first innings score on this ground is just 200 runs. The highest score posted at this stadium is 247 runs by team India. The side batting first in this ODI match will look forward to stretching their capabilities and setting a target of around 260 runs which shall be enough to defend.

The surface here is good for batting but due to the weather being a bit cloudy, seamers will find some help during the first 10 overs. Batters are most likely to suffer due to the condition. The batters need to play a few overs and analyse the situation before counting on their instincts to play big shots. The weather will be cloudy with a bit of passing showers during the day. The highest and lowest temperatures would be 16 and 12 degree Celsius respectively.

Match Prediction

Bangladesh has a record of 9-2 win-loss against Ireland in One Day Internationals. They have also defeated the Irish team in all three formats a few months ago. Thus they would surely start as the favourites to win this match and probably the series too. However, it would not be so easy for the away team as the conditions will favour the Irish seamers. Josh Little who is currently playing a major role for the Gujarat franchise will play a significant role along with Curtis Campher on this pitch. With all that said, Bangladesh has been the master of ODI cricket in recent years and have the capability of shooting down any bird on their day. Thus we expect the away side to win the 1st ODI and carry a 1-0 lead to their 2nd game.
