Rohit Sharma's 9th test hundred put India in the driver's seat on day 2

On the 2nd day of the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy being played in Nagpur has come to an end. On Friday, the Visitors Australia looked as if they almost surrendered in front of the Indian team. Rohit Sharma led team India ended day 2 with a brilliant batting showcase. The hosts also took the massive lead of 144 runs considering this tricky batting pitch of Nagpur.

In front of Australia's score of 177 runs, India ended the second day with 321 runs at the loss of seven wickets. Skipper Rohit Sharma was the star of the day, scoring a brilliant century and his first test century against Australia. It was Rohit’s maiden Test hundred as skipper and ninth overall. Before that, Suryakumar Yadav (8) fell prey to Nathan Lyon’s spin after Virat Kohli departed on the first ball after Lunch as Todd Murphy claimed his 4th in form of Kohli. India was 151/3 at Lunch. Then came both the left-handed batters Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel contributed brilliantly after the dismissal of skipper Rohit Sharma on 120 runs.

Both left-handed all-rounders completed their half-centuries respectively. Star with the ball earlier in the first innings, Jadeja is playing on 66 and Patel is also holding the other hand on 52 runs till stumps. Both managed an unbeaten partnership of 81 runs in 185 balls for the eighth wicket. 22-year-old right-arm off-break spinner debutant Todd Murphy took his first-ever 5-wicket haul in test cricket.

A total of 28 overs were bowled in the final session of the day's play and India scored 74 runs, while Australia extracted a couple of wickets. India dominated the first half of the session by not losing any wickets and Australia bounced back in the second half of the session to get rid of Ashwin and Pujara, Kohli cheaply.
