Jhye Richardson out of Ind T20 League 2023, likely to miss Ashes too
Jhye Richardson is set to miss the upcoming Ind T20 League season and is highly unlikely to participate in the Ashes, as he has undergone surgery to recover from his hamstring injury.
Richardson suffered a setback while playing club cricket last week after he tried to make a comeback from the injury he initially sustained during the Aus T20 League. Consequently, he was ruled out of the ODI series against India, and the medical team decided to opt for surgery in the hopes of finding a lasting solution to his issue.
The fast bowler was slated to represent Mumbai in the Ind T20 League, which would have marked his second appearance in the tournament following his previous stint with Punjab.
"Injuries are a big part of cricket, that's a fact," Richardson tweeted. "Frustrating? Absolutely.
"But I'm now in a scenario where I can get back to doing what I love and work bloody hard to become an even better player than before. One step back, two steps forward. Let's do this."
Richardson's body has failed him over the last two seasons, following a major shoulder surgery in 2019 that prevented him from participating in that year's ODI World Series and Ashes. Despite making a remarkable comeback with a maiden Test five-wicket haul against England in Adelaide in December 2021, his right shoulder injury and a persistent heel problem kept him out of the subsequent match, and he hasn't played Test cricket since.
Although he participated in the T20I and ODI series during the Sri Lanka tour in June 2022, Richardson had a challenging pre-season for WA due to several soft-tissue concerns. Consequently, he only managed to play two Sheffield Shield games and one Marsh Cup game before the Ais T20 League.
