Chris Jordan joins 5-time league champions Mumbai for the rest of the season

Another setback for Mumbai after Jasprit Bumrah who already ruled out of the entire IND T20 League 2023 following a back injury. English speedster Jofra Archer will miss the rest of the season to focus on his rehabilitation. As reported by the 5-time league winners' Mumbai on its Twitter account, he will fly back home on Tuesday. The 28-year-old gun bowler will be monitored by the English and Wales Cricket Board regarding his injury. Another English man Chris Jordan will replace him for the rest of the season for Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai The speculation about Archer's ouster started only when Jordan's announcement was made by Mumbai. MUM has paid 2 crores for the English services for the rest of the season. 

Jofra Archer played his last league match for MUM against CHE on 6 May at Chepauk. He conceded 24 runs in his full quota but remained wicketless in a low-scoring match when MUM needed the wickets from him. Archer has 5 matches played this season, his bowling never came close to his ability and merely took 2 wickets for his franchise.

English Cricket Board was constantly tapping eye on Jofra Archer's injury. Him going away from IND T20 League as many expected, one reason for this could be as one of the biggest cricket rivalries in the world Ashes is on its way. Ben Stokes-led English side would like Archer to be fit before the Ashes series and they do not want to take any risk on their stalwart bowler. Mumbai paid the whopping sum of 8 crores to buy flamboyant bowler Jofra Archer for this edition of the league.

His national teammate, Chris Jordan made his IND T20 League debut in the year 2016. The 34-year-old fast bowler took 96 wickets in 87 T20Is for England, has played 28 matches in this league and has scalped 27 wickets.

Talking about the performance of MUM this season, the side slipped to 8th in the points table following KOL and PUN match result on Monday, Skipper Rohit Sharma's side has played 10 matches so far with 5 wins, and 5 losses in the league. MUM will face Faf Du Plessis-led BLR on Tuesday at Wandkhede where they have a good record against the Southern side. Paltans will be looking to add another two points to the points table and leapfrog to third place in the points tally. Both sides have had a Topsy-Turvy season so far but these two crucial points in this match, may increase their hope for the playoffs.
