Jordan Henderson leaves Liverpool after 12 years

Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson has confirmed his move from Anfield to Saudi Pro League club Al Ettifaq.

The 33 year old is all set to join forces with former club teammate and Liverpool Legend Steven Gerrard, who took over as Al Ettifaq coach on July 3 after his stints at Rangers and Aston Villa.

Henderson, who joined The Reds from Sunderland in 2011, has won seven major trophies during his time at the club- including the coveted Champions League in 2019– and became the only captain in the history of the club to lift the PL trophy in 2020.

The decorated midfielder made this news official via an Instagram post on Wednesday that read: “It's hard to put these last 12 years into words and it's even harder to say goodbye.

"I will always be a Red. Until the day I die. Thank you for everything. You'll never walk alone."

The English international is the latest distinguished player to move from Europe to Saudi. They have ramped up its offering of lucrative deals to some of the sport's biggest figures- most remarkably with Cristiano Ronaldo’s surprise move to Al Nassr in January and Karim Benzema’s move to Al Ittihad last month.

During his 12 year spell at the club, Henderson has scored 33 goals in 492 appearances.
