Jota’s brace helped Liverpool get past Leicester, Arsenal wins against Wolves

Without the likes of Mohammed Salah and Sadio Mane in the starting line-up, Liverpool had no problem whatsoever to beat Leicester at Anfield. The Egyptian King however made his return to the Premier League after losing the finals of the African Cup with Egypt and looks like he needs a break before delivering again for the Reds.

Liverpool was leading and all thanks to Digo Jota’s goal in the 23rd minute but they could have gone 2-0 in the 78th minute but Mohammed Salah missed his penalty. This is a rare sight as a player like Salah is expected to convert every chance that they get. However, the Merseyside got their second goal in the 87th minute as Jota put his second behind the bar.

Jota has been very impressive this season. He has been consistent and very ruthless in the penalty box and scoring all the important goals. In the post-match press conference, the Portuguese said, “I always like to get into those spaces. I was lucky enough to be in the right place to score”. He added, “There was obviously an established front three but we have more options now and that is good for the team”.

Liverpool signee Luis Diaz also made his Premier League debut on Friday. Manager Jurgen Klopp was happy with his performance as the German in the post-match presser said, “When we saw him playing for Porto, we thought yes, that’s exactly what we want him to do as well. On top of that, he seems to be a really smart footballer and has obviously watched Liverpool a lot”.

The Gunners were once again victorious as they defeated Wolves by a goal to nil. Manager Michael Arteta was getting the stick from the fans in the early part of the season but they have turned things up and are now 5th in the table with 39 points from 22 games. The Brazilian Gabriel Maghalhaes scored the only goal of the match in the 25th minute. Later, the forward was also given the marching order in the 69th minute of the match but that didn’t make a difference. Arsenal are on a winning run and Arteta deserves a lot of credit for believing in his young group and making them play like one of the heavyweight teams. Something that the boys in United should actually learn.
