Karthik questions Shami's intent
Karthik calls Shami unprofessional; compares him to Bumrah
Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami are Team India's prime fast bowlers, especially during test matches, but both of the pacers did not feature in the recently completed tour of Bangladesh. While Bumrah was recuperating from a back injury at that time which also made him sit out during the 2022 T20 World Championship, Shami was ruled out of the series with a shoulder injury.
Bumrah posted videos on his social media handles of himself bowling in full form in the nets earlier this month, with the title “Full Throttle” which signifies that he has revived from his injury. It surely raises the home of the Indian spearhead returning for the Indian squad in the upcoming home Test series against Australia. There has been no new update on Shami, who substituted Bumrah in the Indian squad for the T20 World Championship 2022.
In this situation where the presence of both the bowlers is uncertain, veteran Indian wicketkeeper batter Dinesk Karthik expressed his doubts over the matter that Shami might make his comeback into the squad for the Australia series. He also added the difference in the approach towards training when compared to Bumrah. "For Shami, it’s a big question, because he is somebody who is probably not as professional as Bumrah when it comes to training. He has had an injury and he’s been injury-struck for some time,” said Karthik.
Skipper Rohit Sharma also missed out on the Bangladesh Test series due to an injury which he sustained during the white ball games. Karthik added that the Indian team management and the National Cricket Academy have to find a solution to keep players out of injury for a long period of time.
“The whole Indian backups have been injured over a period of time for some strange reason. The Indian team and NCA need to align themselves towards how they are going to plan in making sure the players stay fit over a period of time,” he said.
