Shubham Gill and Prithvi Shaw may get the chance to feature against Sri Lanka in 3-match T20I series

After winning the test series 2-0 against Bangladesh in their backyard. Now team India will be having an action-packed home tour starting against Sri Lanka on January 03. Men in Blue will be playing 3-match ODIs and T20Is against the Lankan Lions in the new year. The Indian Cricket Board may soon announce the team for this home series.

It is believed that the selection committee can drop KL Rahul from the T20 team following his poor form against Bangladesh. At the same time, the team's regular captain, Rohit Sharma, has not yet fully recovered from the injury. His place in the team is still a big question for the selectors. The 35-year-old, Rohit Sharma suffered a thumb injury during the second ODI on the Bangladesh tour.

The Indian Cricket Board has entrusted the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee with the responsibility of picking the team for the home series against Sri Lanka. This is the same selection committee that was sacked by the cricket board last month.

In terms of batting, The opening batter KL Rahul's performance in the T20 format has been quite fluctuating for team India in 2022. This year, Rahul has scored 434 runs in 16 matches at an average of 28.93, including 6 half-centuries. During this, he could not even cross the double figure in 7 out of 10 innings. His performance in the T20 World Cup was even worse where his strike rate was under the radar of 100. According to the report, Rahul's leave is believed to be specific for multiple reasons.

This opportunity also opens the door for other batters as well, if Rahul is dropped from the T20 team, then the in-form batter Shubman Gill may replace him for the SL tour. Apart from Shubman, Prithvi Shaw, who has been out of Team India for a long time, is also likely to return for this tour.

On the other side, Rohit Sharma may also miss the 3-match T20 series against Sri Lanka. The opening batter suffered an injury during the second ODI on the Bangladesh tour and he could not play in the Test series against Bangladesh.

Rohit has not yet fully recovered from the injury. If Rohit does not return against Sri Lanka, then Hardik Pandya can be seen captaining the team in his place. Since the Indian cricket board does not want to take any risk on his injury keeping World Cup 2023 in mind.
