Rohit, Kohli likely to miss Sri Lanka T20Is

Indian mainstays Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will supposedly miss the forthcoming three match T20I series against Sri Lanka. Rohit Sharma is yet to fully recover from the finger injury he suffered during the second ODI against Bangladesh on December 7. Meanwhile, Kohli is likely to take a break from the shortest format of the game and focus majorly on ODIs and Tests in 2023.

According to reports, Chetan Sharma, head of the outgoing selection committee will name the squads for the white ball series against the Asian champions before leaving their respective roles.

The Indian Cricket Board has asked selectors to compile and send reports for the ongoing third round of the Ranji trophy games, which have commenced across the nation on Tuesday, December 27.

While Ravindra Jadeja is highly likely to make a return to the side, Hardik Pandya is expected to be their skipper in the absence of Rohit. The upcoming series can see the much anticipated return of Jadeja, who last played a competitive game during the 2022 Asia T20, where he sustained a major knee injury. After spending days at the rehabilitation centre in the National Cricket Academy, Bengaluru, the 34 year old is declared fit.

Young prodigy Yash Dhull, who is currently leading the Delhi side in the Ranji trophy, is also in contention to earn his maiden national team call-up.

In order to keep up with Ranji trophy action the members of the selection committee are dispersed across the country and the selection meeting is likely to be held online later on Tuesday, December 27.
