Kuldeep Yadav, KL Rahul shine in team India's 2-0 victory over Sri Lanka
India beat Sri Lanka by 4 wickets, taking a 2-0 lead in the series
India vs Sri Lanka (IND vs SL) 2nd ODI: The second match of the three ODI series between India and Sri Lanka was played at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday. India defeated Sri Lanka by four wickets to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series. The Visitors won the toss and decided to bat against the Hosts. Team India bundled up the Lankan Lions for 215 runs in 39.4 overs with the superb bowling of Kuldeep Yadav and Siraj. Team India won the match by scoring 219 runs for six wickets in 43.2 overs with a solid performance from wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul with the bat.
India has won the three ODI series against Sri Lanka by 2-0 and is still a match to play for. Men in Blue won by four wickets in the second match played at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. Team India won the first match by 67 runs. Now the third and final match will be played at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, 15th January.
Sri Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka won the toss and was elected to bat first at the Eden Gardens on Thursday (January 12). His decision did not prove to be correct. The Lankan team somehow managed to cross 200 runs. The side was reduced to 215 runs in 39.4 overs. In response, the Indian team achieved the target in 43.2 overs despite losing early wickets.
Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammad Siraj were the architects of Team India's victory in bowling. At the same time, KL Rahul, experienced in batting, performed brilliantly in the middle order. He took control of the innings after the fall of four wickets for 86 runs and shared a 75-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Hardik Pandya. Hardik was dismissed after scoring 36 runs off 53 balls.
However, team India's top order failed to dominate in this match; Rohit(17), Gill(21) & Virat(4) runs all were dismissed in the first batting powerplay of the India inning. Meanwhile, Iyer also played a good knock of 28 runs when India was 86/4 at one stage. But thanks to Hardik and KL for building a solid partnership and taking them to cross the line.
After him, Rahul got the support of the left-handed batter Axar Patel. Both shared a 30-run partnership for the sixth wicket. KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 63 off 103 balls and Kuldeep Yadav scored 10 runs off 10 balls.
