Man City ready to sign Chilwell if he leaves Chelsea this summer

Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell could receive a potential offer from Man City if he is ready to part ways with the Blues. While the reigning champion’s interest in the 26 year old left back was first expressed over a month ago, there’s now a genuine intent from Pep Guardiola and his side. 

Having loaned Joao Cancelo to Bayern Munich that could become permanent in the summer, Guardiola is in the market for a left back. Nathan Ake is standing in for the position in Joao’s absence, but it’s not his favoured position, and so the Man City boss is on the hunt for a suitable alternative this summer. 

Another major problem for Chelsea in terms of making Chilwell stay at Stamford Bridge is that they’re unlikely to qualify for the Champions League, which could see players depart in the hopes of European football elsewhere. Chelsea are currently eleven points off fourth place and though they have a game in-hand on Tottenham Hotspur in the remaining Champions League spot, they have a lot of ground to make up. 

Chelsea are looking to move on players with just one year left on their contract this summer, including the likes of Mason Mount and Pierre Emerick Aubameyang. Ben Chilwell is one of the seven notable players with two years left on their current deal/contract.
