Liverpool vs Spurs ends in a draw while Man City wins again
Classic thriller as Spurs vs. Liverpool ends in a draw while City wins again!
A classic thriller at London in the Tottenham Hotspur stadium as the reds were stopped by Spurs and earned one point in the process. Liverpool is chasing the Premier League title and thus a draw in this crucial juncture could cost them in the long run. Without Virgil Van Dijk, it was always going to be difficult and Spurs took total advantage of that.
Tottenham could score more goals if they could have converted those easy chances. Hueng Min Son and Dele Alli missed sitters in the first half and thus Spurs couldn’t capitalize. Harry Kane, their captain, gave them the lead at the 15th minute mark. It took some time but Liverpool pulled it back as Diego Jota put them into level terms. Jurgen Klopp was very unhappy going into the break as many believed that Harry Kane should have been given a red card for his challenge on Andrew Robertson. It was ugly and the Spurs captain deserved to get a marching order but somehow escaped.
In the second half, Robertson made it 2-1 for the Reds after the Spurs defense stood still for a moment. Keeper Hugo Lloris did his best to keep it out but got very little support from his teammates. Thus, Alexandre Arnold’s cross was easily answered by the left back. Fate once again played its part. After a blunder from the Spurs defense, the Liverpool keeper did something of his own. He failed to clear the ball and Son had an empty net in front of him and the Korean made no mistake whatsoever to convert it. With that, Tottenham made it 2-2.
A lot of drama was still left and Robertson was given a straight red after a horrible challenge. Without Van Dijk in the mix and the losing Robertson, it was definitely going to be tough for the club and thus, they played a bit defensively towards the end but Tottenham had their chances but again, couldn’t capitalize. With a draw, Liverpool is now 3 points behind Manchester City who once again won their fixture against Newcastle United.
Like expected, City dominated the match throughout but Newcastle made a couple of errors which proved to be costly. Ruben Dias scored the first goal at the 5th minute mark and that is something the Magpies could have easily avoided. There was a lack of communication between the goalkeeper and the defender and Dias took full advantage of it. Joao Cancelo scored a brilliant goal in the 27th minute to make it 2-0 for City but that was again something that could have been avoided. The defenders did not close him down and gave enough space to make his run and eventually shoot from distance.
In the second half, the Magpies tried their best to counter and the introduction of Allan Saint-Maximin did help them play some better football. However, Callum Wilson missed some chances and that’s that. With some speed in the attack, Newcastle could have done some damage but that of course didn’t happen. Riyad Mahrez made it 3-0 for City while Sterling made it 4-0 from a brilliant low cross in the 86th minute. It was again all too easy for the Citizens and they remain in the top of the table with 44 points from 18 games.
