Major T20 League 2023

Match 3: SO vs WF

Preview

The third match of the Major T20 League 2023 tournament is set to take place between Seattle against Washington on Saturday, July 15. This match is scheduled to take place at Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas, USA. Though the inaugural season of the Major T20 League already commenced on Friday, July 14. It is important to understand that 108 players have been selected to participate in the 6-team competition, concluding on July 31. The franchises have made an impressive 49 international signings for this league. TSK, LAKR, WF, MINY, SFU and SO are the six teams who will battle it out to win the first-ever US-based T20 League.

Seattle has the likes of Sikandar Raza, Quinton de Kock, Wayne Parnell and Dasun Shanaka as their big signings from the international circuit. Left-handed all-rounder Wayne Parnell-led SO has demonstrated their astuteness by selecting versatile players in the group. Despite SL skipper Dasun Shanaka's current lack of form, he remains a valuable asset in the middle order who can score big runs with the bat for this side. In contrast, ZIM all-rounder Sikandar Raza has been in excellent form for the last two years or so and has been in great touch earlier in the World Championship Series Qualifier as well for his national side.

Washington may not boast the most renowned T20 players, but WF made strategic choices in acquiring talents like Wanindu Hasaranga, Marco Jansen, Anrich Nortje, Glenn Phillips, Adam Milne, Moises Henriques, and Josh Philippe. Aussie all-rounder Moises Henriques-led WF will rely heavily on their bowling prowess, drawing upon the expertise of seasoned players such as the quality bowling of Anrich Nortje, Adam Milne, and Marco Jansen. These gun bowlers can deliver their full quota of four overs in every game and are genuine wicket-takers for the Washington side in this competition.

Unfortunately, One of the current best all-rounders Hasaranga, the WF's prized acquisition and main spinner, will be unavailable due to workload issues. He will be replaced by Australia's leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha, the 21-year-old young-talent who has made a name for himself with exceptional performances for Sydney in the AUS T20 League.

Match Details

Match: SO vs WF, Match 3, Major T20 League 2023

Date: Saturday, July 15, 2023

Time: 6:00 AM (Jul 15)

Venue: Grand Prairie Stadium, Dallas, United States

Pitch Report

Due to the small boundary size of this venue, we are expecting a high-scoring encounter in this 3rd match. The team batting first would look to post a total of around 180-190 runs to feel safe on this track. It remains to be seen how the pitch behaves in the second half of the game.

The playing conditions on this pitch, remain largely unknown. While the stadium was previously utilized for USA's one of the most dominated sports baseball,  Grand Prairie Stadium has recently been redeveloped into a cricket ground. Given that the track will be used for most matches of the inaugural edition of the Major T20 League, we can expect this to be a batting-friendly wicket with very little help for the bowlers.

The maximum temperature will remain at 36°C, with a low of 27°C with 38% humidity, and a wind speed of 14-17 Km/hr for the 3rd Major T20 League match between SO and WF on Saturday, July 15, 2023. Dallas is expected to be warm and humid for this match.

Match Prediction

This will be the first-ever match between the SO and WF in this tournament. It’s difficult to say which team has the edge, as WF is more bowling-heavy while the SO is dependent on its batting strength. However, Grand Prairie Stadium is likely to favour the batters. If that’s the case, then Seattle might take the game away with its superior batting, especially if SO get to bat first and post a huge total. The likes of De Kock and Raza will punish the inexperienced WF bowling unit. We say SO to win this match.
