Matheus Nunes suffered a brutal injury during the Copenhagen clash
EPL side Manchester City’s midfielder Matheus Nunes suffered a horrific injury in the match against Copenhagen as the middle finger on his left hand was dislocated. Manchester City hosted Copenhagen in the second leg of the 2023/2024 Champions League last 16 on Wednesday(06th March 2024) while playing at the Etihad Stadium, the Citizens successfully beat the visitors with a score of 3-1.
Manchester City's goals were created by Manuel Akanji, Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland. Copenhagen narrowed the gap thanks to Mohamed Elyounoussi's goal but that was not enough for the Visitors to secure next round berth in the UCL. With this result, City was entitled to advance to the quarter-finals with a 6-2 aggregate win. In the first-leg match in Denmark last February, City won with a score of 3-1, when the match entered the 72nd minute, Nunes slipped while chasing a Copenhagen player. The Portuguese midfielder lay curled up in the middle of the field, grimacing in pain and his finger turned out to be the victim. The middle finger of his left hand was dislocated and bent upwards.
Nunes then received treatment from the medical team after her finger was bandaged, Nunes was pulled out and replaced by Micah Hamilton. Former United player and English media pundit Darren Fletcher also commented on."His fingers were bent strangely," Fletcher said. Meanwhile, former Manchester City goalkeeper Shay Given admitted that he had also suffered a dislocated finger. However, he continued the match. "As a goalkeeper, I was playing with a dislocated finger and Matheus Nunes was out with that injury. Maybe I'm old-fashioned," he mentioned in an interview.
