Man Utd - Chelsea share points at Stanford Bridge
Both Tuchel and Carrick left frustrated as United held Chelsea at London
The odds were totally against Manchester United when the Red Devils were scheduled to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The reason being is their form in the Premier League. In their last league game, Watford humiliated them in their own backyard and with that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lost his job as the head coach. Now, things have changed. Michael Carrick has been appointed and the former United defender gave them a strong win against Villarreal in the Champions League. Even after all that, no one thought United could pull off an appointment because Chelsea are this strong as a side. On top of that, the caretaker coach of Man United decided to drop one of the best players in the world, Cristiano Ronaldo in such an important match.
Coming back to the game, the red devils were always on the back foot. Chelsea played their normal attacking football but United were efficient enough to stop them. Like expected, the men in red didn’t create too many chances in the middle. To everyone’s surprise they took the lead in the 50th minute after Jorginho made a horrible mistake in which Jadon Sancho took full advantage and scored in back to back two games for United.
Their lead didn’t stick with them for a long time as the man himself scored from the spot kick after Thiago Silva was brought down in the penalty box by Aaron Wan Bissaka. The match ended 1-1 after Chelsea dominated almost throughout the match. The United fans were very unhappy and Fred received a lot of criticism as the Brazilian missed a sitter towards the end of the game. Chelsea’s keeper Mendy almost handed him the goal but Fred did what he has been doing in almost every match.
Thomas Tuchel in the post match presser said, “I’m absolutely happy with the performance. We dominated from the first minute; we were aggressive and never stopped attacking. Unfortunately we scored two goals, one for each side”. The German added, “United defended deep. We have to swallow the result. We feel disappointed as we think by far we did enough”.
Carrick, who probably managed his last game for United, has expressed his frustration to the press. The Englishman said, “At the moment, we are a little bit frustrated and really disappointed. Being in front and suffering from a penalty that I don’t think was a penalty is disappointing”.
