Mason Greenwood set to leave Old Trafford

Manchester United and Mason Greenwood have mutually agreed that he will depart Old Trafford after a six month investigation into his conduct.

United set a probe in motion into the circumstances around Greenwood's arrest on suspicion of assault and rape after the charges against the footballer were dropped earlier this year (Ferburary)

The 21 year old was arrested in January 2022 based on the evidence i.e. images and an audio file were circulated online.

On Monday United issued a statement which said that they’ve “concluded that the material posted online did not provide a full picture and that Mason did not commit the offences in respect of which he was originally charged” but announced that he’ll be leaving Old Trafford.

As per sources, Greenwood’s contract, which runs until 2025, has not been terminated, but is not expected to compete for the club again. United will entertain loan offers as well as consider a permanent move away, sources said.

The statement issued by the Red Devils read  : "All those involved, including Mason, recognise the difficulties with him recommencing his career at Manchester United.

"It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome."

In a different statement, Greenwood, who has been suspended from matches and training since his arrest, said he “did not do the things I was accused of" but accepted that the decision to leave United was "best for us all."
