Match 2: DEL vs MUM

Preview 

Delhi will take on Mumbai in the second match of the Indian T20 League at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday, March 27. Led by Rishabh Pant, the Delhi franchise had a pretty decent outing last year. With 20 points in 14 games, Pant and co finished at the top of the league standings. They were knocked out by Kolkata in Qualifier-2 of the previous edition. Mumbai on the other hand had an awful 2021. They lost games at regular intervals and as a result finished fifth. The 5 time champions will be keen to get back to their very best and start their campaign with a big win over their arch rivals. 

After a promising 2021, Delhi will be eager to start this edition on a positive note. They had a stellar Mega Auction, buying the likes of David Warner, Mustafizur Rahman and Sarfaraz Khan. Warner at ₹6.65 crore was a great steal for them. However, they failed to create a formidable bowling unit, something that made them threatening in the last couple of years. Anrich Nortje who was Delhi’s key bowler last year will lead the pace attack. He alongside Shardul, Mustafizur and Ngidi can form a menacing quartet. Chetan Sarkariya is another quickie to keep an eye on. The spin  bowling attack seems a little fragile with only two frontline spinners, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav in their ranks. Batting department looks potent with Warner, Powell and Siefert in the mix. All eyes will however be on Yash Dhull. Regarded as the next ‘big’ thing, the teen sensation who led India to fifth U-19 World Series title will be desperate to showcase his talent at this level. 

Mumbai this year will be banking on their senior players to deliver the results. Skipper Rohit who had a quiet 2021 with bat in hand will be hoping to turn things around this year. In the Mega Auction, the Mumbai management made a few smart buys. Tilak Varma, Dewald Brewis and Tim David have been roped in by the heavyweights to strengthen their middle order. Fabian Allen is another hard hitting all rounder who can ideally fit in there. Mumbai’s dependable number 3, Suryakumar Yadav will likely miss out this encounter due to injury concerns. While Bumrah will spearhead the pace attack, experienced pace bowler Jaydev Unadkat can come in handy on the bouncy Brabourne track. The spin duo of Mayank Markande and Murugan will have the onus to keep the destructive Delhi batting order in check.
