Matt Targett joins Newcastle United on a permanent basis

After a successful loan period at the Saint James Park, Newcastle United sealed a permanent deal to keep the left back for four more years. Targett was a key member of the Newcastle side and helped the team fight from the relegation zone to a mid-table finish. The Magpies spent 15 million Euros to bring the English defender to Newcastle.

Targett was delighted to join the club on a permanent basis. Speaking to the press, the 26-year-old said, “I am absolutely delighted to sign a four-year contract with the club”. He added, “For me, it was an easy decision to make the loan permanent after the welcome I had from my fellow players, the staff, the supporters and the owners. So, I am really happy to be here”.

Targett made 16 appearances for Newcastle after a move in the month of January and he was impressive during this time. Eventually Coach Eddie Howard was thrilled to see the boy move to Newcastle on a permanent basis. “Matt had a fantastic impact after joining on loan in January and made a big contribution to some excellent team performances”, said the coach.

He added, “He is a great lad and a top professional who undoubtedly makes us stronger. So, I am delighted as he sees his future here”.

After signing Targett on a permanent basis, the club will move to sign some other players as well. The new owners would want to see the team play European competitions and thus new players will definitely join the club soon.
