Mayank Yadav to be out of action for a long time

The CEO of the Lucknow franchise, Vinod Bisht, declared on Monday that the promising young Indian fast bowler Mayank Yadav is likely to miss the forthcoming Indian T20 League home match against Delhi on April 12. Mayank is recovering from an abdominal strain sustained during the match against Gujarat in which his side managed a 33-run win on Sunday night. He is under the monitoring of the franchise and will be examined throughout the week. 

“Mayank has some soreness in his lower abdomen, his workload will be managed cautiously over the next week as a precautionary measure. We hope he can return to the field soon,” stated Bisht in an official announcement.

Even though Mayank’s return was not confirmed, the statement implies that he may also miss Lucknow’s match against Kolkata in Eden Gardens on April 14. As lower abdominal injuries often bench pacers for long periods, it seems dubious for the injury-prone fast bowler to recover so quickly. 

In Sunday night’s encounter against Gujarat, after bowling just an over, Mayank left the field with the team’s physio.

The Lucknow speedster has received overnight popularity for its remarkable speed, which frequently surpasses 150 kmph with ease. But in that match, Mayank failed to throw over 140 kmph in his only over while giving away 13 runs in the process.

He remained out for the rest of the series and didn’t come out to the field or bowl. A side strain was suspected in the initial phase as the cause of his absence. Lucknow all-rounder Krunal Pandya said that he observed Mayank Agarwal normal after the game. 

“I have no idea what’s going on. He seemed fine during our conversation, which is encouraging. He has a sound head on his shoulder based on our interactions and conversations. Really looking forward to seeing how his career develops,” Krunal commented during the post-match presentation ceremony.

The speedster debuted against Punjab in the present edition of the Indian T20 League and, had already clutched six wickets in his first two games before an injury forced him to leave the field during the third match.
