Modric shine as Real Madrid beat Sevilla by 1-0

The 38-year-old Luka Modric proved that he is still at the top level in match 26 of La Liga against Sevilla, the Croatian midfielder's goal helped Los Blancos to beat Los Rojiblancos by 1-0 in the 81st minute of the game. The midfielder received a wild ball near the penalty box and he then fired a precise kick and the goal was scored. During the match, Modric did not play from the first minute but he was only brought on in the 75th minute however, Modric was able to seal the victory for Real Madrid.

Luka Modric, as noted by Opta, is the second-oldest player to score a goal from outside the penalty box in La Liga. Modric was 38 years and 169 days old when he scored the goal against Sevilla and he is only older than Jorge Molina (40 years and 15 days). "This was a very difficult match, they(Sevilla) didn't make it easy for us, but we got the win in the end and that's the most important thing," said Modric.

"Winning this way gives us a little more satisfaction, even though we could have got the winning goal sooner. I'm happy to have contributed a goal," continued Luka Modric. In the 2023/2024 season, the Croatian midfielder will no longer play regularly. However, with two goals and four assists, his quality has not eroded even though he is 38 years old.

Luka Modric, in terms of age, is no longer young and he is the most senior player in the Real Madrid squad this season. However, his status as a senior player has not made the man from Croatia lose his passion and enthusiasm. Not only on the pitch, the former Balon d'Or winner is also still enthusiastic when he is on the training stage. Modric admitted that the goal against Sevilla was the result of the hard training he had been doing all this time. "(The goal came from) practising every day at Valdebebas, taking shots on goal. You have to shoot and I shot today and thankfully, the ball went into the goal," said the Croatian midfielder.
