Mohammed Shami Creates History, Achieves Two Remarkable Milestones In The Match Against Sri Lanka

Team India registered a 302-run win against Sri Lanka on Thursday as they remain the only unbeaten team in the Cricket World Cup 2023 with seven consecutive wins. With this win, they became the first team to cruise into the semi-finals of the marquee event. The Islanders collapsed at 55 runs while chasing a target of 358 runs. 

Indian prime pacer Mohammed Shami picked a fifer giving away just 18 runs in 5 overs. Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah also struck with the new ball fetching five ducks. The highest score from the Lankan side was Kasun Rajitha (14). Sri Lanka repeated somewhat the same script as the Asia Cup 2023 final where they were bowled out for just 50 runs. Bumrah shined with 1-8 in five overs while Siraj went for 3-16 in seven overs. These two did the primary damage to the Sri Lankan batters before Shami came in and did the final job.

• He went past Zaheer Khan and Javagal Srinath to become the first Indian bowler with the most wickets in ODI World Cups.
• Also, this was his fourth wicket haul which made him the Indian bowler with the most five-wicket hauls in ODIs.

Indian talismanic batter Virat Kohli missed out on levelling with Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries but still contributed crucial 88 runs in a total score of 357/8.

Opening batter Shubman Gill topped the chart with 92 runs after Rohit Sharma went off early in the innings. The Gill-Kohli pair shared an 189-run partnership which took India to post the huge total.
